Medal of Honor fans, here is something special for you today. YouTube’s ‘Jos van Laar’ shared a video, showing the Scuttling the U-529 mission from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault in Unreal Engine 5.5.
In this mission, the player steps into the boots of Mike Powell as they infiltrate the Norwegian submarine base, undercover and under pressure. This video will give you a pretty good idea of what a modern-day remake of this classic Medal of Honor game would look like. So, be sure to check it out.
To help you see how much better the fan remake looks compared to the original game, there’s also a video of the original version included below. Watching both will give you a clear idea of the big jump in graphics and quality.
The fan remake doesn’t just look better, but it improves almost everything. The visuals are sharper, the lighting is more realistic, and the textures have way more detail. It looks incredible. Plus, it was created by only one person. Now that’s impressive.
And even with all these upgrades, the remake still keeps the heart of the original game. The dark, moody atmosphere is still there, and the art style feels the same, just with a fresh new look.
The only thing I can critique is the lip syncing. As you will see, it looks kind of bad. Other than that, Jos van Laar was able to provide an incredible fan remake. So, if you loved Allied Assault, I highly recommend watching the video.
Sadly, this project was created for portfolio purposes. In other words, there is no download link so that you can run it on your PC. That’s a bummer, but hey, it’s at least something cool to watch.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this cool fan remake of Metal Gear Solid. Let’s also not forget this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive. In February 2024, we also shared fan remakes of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and GTA 3, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a remaster of Unreal Gold and a cool fan remake of Doom 3. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9, and this HD-2D Fan Remake for Xenogears.
Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground have also received some cool remakes. Oh, and there is a fan remake of Tomb Raider The Last Revelation, featuring Angelina Jolie and Christoph Walz. And if that’s not enough, there are fan remakes for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Death Stranding, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, and Silent Hill 3’s Lakeside Amusement Park. Finally, there is this Studio Ghibli-like teaser for Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
